BILLY BARQUEDIR NATIONAL PARK
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Billy Barquedier National Park
The national park consists of approximately 1,500 acres of conserved tropic forest, sitting on the Santa Rosa Metasedimentary Rock.
Billy Barquedier was declared a national park in 2001 and is still in its infancy. Since its founding, the park has been managed by Steadfast Tourism and Conservation Association (STACA) along with the Forestry Department of Belize.
The park consists of protected habitat and a hiking trail that leads to the Barquedier waterfall. The waterfall is the park's main tourist attraction, as well as the main supply of water to the three surrounding villages.
BBNP is home to a diverse array of wildlife. It is said to be a prime bird watching destination, offering views of various species of migratory birds and other endemics such as the keel billed motmot and cerulean warbler. Other species often seen from the park's hiking trails are Gibnuts, Howler Monkeys, Jaguars and Tapirs, Belize's national animal.
Once you arrive at the site, be ready for a slight 15-20 minutes hiking trail to the freshwater Barquedier waterfall. After that short hike, take a swim, it's worth it!

MONKEY RIVER TOUR
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Monkey River Town is a village in the north of the Toledo District of Belize. It is on the Caribbean Sea on the southern shore of the mouth of Belize's Monkey River. In 2011 the estimated population was 200 people. The village is one of the last purely Creole settlements in Belize, and many traditional practices are still carried out, such as cooking over the "fyah haat" (fire hearth).
Enjoy a leisure boat ride up the beautiful winding river looking at the many species of birds and reptiles like Iguanas and even the illusive Crocodiles. We will stop at various places along the river to look at Bats and turtles taking in the sun. Then it will be time to exit the boat for a short hike to get a close look at the troops of Howler Monkeys.
Finally, we’ll enjoy a local lunch in this sleepy little village before making our back to Placencia and make a stop to look for the Manatees. Get your cameras out and be on the ready, they are not up for long periods to take in the fresh air.
